Cheque Presentation 2009

Briefly taking a break from their training sessions at the Club's Garon Park headquarters, members of Southend-on-Sea Athletic Club along with some of the Club's Officers, and Mr Duffy of race sponsor Original Sports, witnessed the presentation of a cheque for £9,349.14 to Angela Clements of Fair Havens by Mr David Amess, MP for Southend West.

The donation to the Havens Group followed the successful 25th running of the Southend Classic 10K race last October, courtesy of the fund-raising efforts by competitors as well as a contribution from the Club itself.
In its "Silver" year, the 2009 race attracted a record entry of 2,065 men and women.

Cheque Presentation 2008

David Amess, MP for Southend West, presents cheque from 'Southend Classic 10k' race fundraising at Southend Athletic Club.
The Southend Classic 10k race is held annually in October from Southchurch Park and last year's event was the 23rd running of the race. It is an athletic event more than a charity run and attracts many top class athletes. Last year there were 1631 finishers in the race and 97 finishers in the children's fun run. The race is primarily organised to raise funds for Southend Athletic Club to help pay for the facilities at the leisure centre. However, we invite entrants to either make a donation or raise sponsorship for Fair Havens Hospice and Little Havens Children's Hospice. Last year our other local MP and Vice President, James Dudderidge also took part in the race.

In attendance at the presentation last night were Judy Grocott (Fundraising Manager for Havens Hospices) on David's left and June Cork (Press Secretary for Southend AC) on David's right; Ana Ockendon, the Club's Social Secretary is on the left. David is of course a Vice-President of our club. The amount raised last year was £12,469.13 and was slightly lower than the previous year.
