MICHKY SUTTON
>> Charity effort
Ilford's MICKY SUTTON commemorated 'D' Day by taking part in a
65 miles run/yomp to raise funds for Project 65 - further
details on www.project65.net - which started on June 4th. It commemorated the landing by 200 British serviceman in the
1944 Coup-de-Main Operation where they crash landed gliders in
France and made their way to capture the Pegasus and Horsa
bridges during the opening minutes of 'D' Day. The 65 miles
event commenced at Tarrant Rushden airfield (where that
1944operation operation also commenced) in Dorset where
participants set off to Portsmouth. They took a ferry to
Ouistreham before running the remaining 2.8 miles to the
bridges, so making up 65 miles.
The target is £500,000 to erect a memorial to the Coup-de-Main
force. The remained of the money received will be equally
divided between the Royal British Legion, BLESMA, St.Dunstan's,
RAF Benevolent Fund, Army Benevolent Fund and Help for Heroes.
