Southend AC sadly announce the death of its most successful ever sprint coach & life member Jerry Tucker, who died on Feb 1st of a sudden and unexpected brain haemorrhage.

Through the 80’s and 90’s Jerry produced many County and National Champions or medalists and in the Club’s best ever sprinter Mark Smith, a Commonwealth Gold Relay Medal. His squad still make up most of the club’s top 5 sprint ranking spots, including Mark Smith 10.4, 20.85, 46.44, John Rowlands 48.3, Elliot Brittain (U15) sub 50, Clive Farrow 22.05, 48.45, Keith Palmer 21.5, 48.8, his own son David Tucker (u15) 50 secs, Nick Hewitt & Paul Sylvester 11.0/1. Jerry’s success also brought in top sprinters from other club’s to join the group, John Kenny 10.4, & Jason Fergus 10.3, 20.85, to name but a few.

Jerry moved up north to Cheshire towards the end of the 90’s to be near his family and his group was taken over by one of his own squad and now club chairman and level 3 sprint coach Keith Palmer, but what a hard act to follow!!!

A fantastic group and great time to be a sprinter at the club. RIP Jerry, we applaud you. ???
